1. Be driven by goals, not moods
Pessimism can be tied to fear and anxiety. Because pessimists are driven by their moods, and their hesitations, they tend to slow down and stop. This is why itâs important to take actions that are goal-directed, not mood-directed. When people are feeling pessimistic, it is hard to take action. Despite what you may be feeling inside, take a look at where you want to get to in life and plan your actions according to that. When we do the opposite and plan our actions according to fears and anxieties, we tend to hold back, which might not be in our best interest.
The problem of allowing the mood youâre in to drive your behaviour is that you might not take any action until you feel motivated, until youâre in the ârightâ mood. This means waiting to feel energized on the inside, before engaging.51, 52, 53 But in order to overcome passivity and the moods holding you back, engage in activities that help you reach your goals, despite what you may be feeling on the inside. This can help you set your wheels into motion again, and the first glimmer of hope and optimism can appear again.
